1986 CADILLAC CIMARRON

Cimarron entered a new year sporting new wraparound taillamps at the restyled rear end, carrying a price tag that began above $13,000. Inside was new leather trim on the shift boot and knob (manual shift), at a redesigned console. A premium Delco-Bose sound system was now optional, and suspension components were revised.

Cadillac's smallest had been extensively reworked as a mid-year 1985 entry with new front-end styling (more evidently Cadillac) and new optional electronic instrument cluster. Most important, though, was the V-6 option, giving the car a much-needed performance boost. That "second generation" 2.8 liter V-6 with multi-port fuel injection came from Chevrolet. Standard engine continued to be the 2.0 liter four with five-speed (Getrag-designed) manual gearbox. The 2.8 could have four-speed manual or three-speed automatic. Even with the V-6 available, Cimarron still wasn't selling strongly, enjoying only a modest increase for 1985.

To improve handling there was an optional Delco/Bilstein suspension with gas-charged front struts and rear shocks, plus stiffer front spring rates and thicker front stabilizer bar. That suspension was required with the V-6 engine.

An impressive standard equipment list included
  • Sierra Grain leather seating areas
  • air conditioning
  • cruise control
  • leather-trimmed tilt steering wheel
  • aluminum alloy wheels
  • plenty of power gadgetry from six-way driver's seat to windows to trunk lid release
The standard seek/scan AM/FM stereo radio included a power antenna. Cimarron used a fine-patterned crosshatch grille with "Cadillac" script at the driver's side, plus recessed quad rectangular headlamps. Wide parking/signal lamps were inset below the bumper rub strips; foglamps below them, flanking the air dam. "Cimarron" script appeared on front doors. Yellow beige "chamois" was a new Cimarron color. Twenty dual-color accent stripes were available.

Also revised this year was the D'Oro version, whose distinctive front end featured aero composite halogen headlamps and wraparound side marker lights. Offered with a white or red body, the package included:
  • gold custom fine line accent stripes on beltline, rub strips and hood center
  • gold-accented grille
  • foglamp covers
  • lower bodyside accent moldings
  • D'Oro plaques on front fenders and dash
  • gold-tinted lay-down hood ornament
  • gold-tinted steering wheel spokes and horn pad emblem
P205/60RI4 low-profile performance steel-belted radial tires rode on gold-accented 14 in. aluminum alloy wheels. D'Oro also had grooved, body-colored lower body accent moldings.
