1992 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD

    FLEETWOOD
    • For 1992 Fleetwood models received traction control as standard equipment while deVille models offered this function as an option.
    • The new exterior and interior colors available listed for deVille were also part of the changes for the 1992 Fleetwood.
    • Returning to power the Fleetwood coupe and sedan offered was the 4.9-liter V-8 paired with the 4T60-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive
    • New standard fea­tures included the brake-only traction control system; 100,000-mile replacement interval, platinum-trpped spark plugs; and driver's side electrochromic outside rear view mir­ror.
    • A new option was the Delco-Bose Gold Series CD sound system.
    • Fleetwood models also received upgrades to the exhaust system and throttle body design, as mentioned in the DeVille listing.
    • The Fieetwood's power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system was refined, with its power steering pump, gear assembly, and tie-rod ends being upgraded.
    • Suspension modifications were also carried out to the Fleetwood's struts, rear stabilizer bar, rear springs, and toe links to improve durability.
    • The Fleetwood's heating/air conditioning system featured a new compressor and temperature valve motor mounted on the A/C control module.
  • FLEETWOOD SIXTY SPECIAL
    • The Sixty Spe­cial's new features mirrored those of the Fleetwood coupe and sedan with the exception of two new interior leather colors: Light Gray and Black.
    • The new standard brake-only traction control system used the same integral front bearing wheel-speed sensors as the Teves anti-lock braking system.
    • The traction control system applied pulses of brake pressure to a drive wheel if it began to spin.
    • This system was fully functional up to 24 mph, with the traction control operation gradually phased out between 24 and 30 mph.

The 1992 Cadillac had a 17-symbol vehicle identification number (VIN) stamped on a metal tag attached to the upper left surface of the cowl visible through the windshield. The digits of the code were as follows:
  • First digit = "1" = manufacturing country (United States)
  • Second = "G” = General Motors
  • Third = "6" = Cadillac
  • Fourth & fifth = car line/series
    • C/B=Fleetwood
    • C/G=Fleetwood Sixty Special
  • Sixth = the body style:
    • 1 = two-door coupe/sedan
    • 5 = four-door sedan
  • Seventh = the restraint code:
    • 1 = active (manual) belts
    • 2 = active (manual) belts w/dual airbags
    • 3 = active (manual) belts w/driver’s side airbag
    • 4 = passive (automatic) belts
    • 5 = passive (automatic) belts w/driver's side airbag
  • Eighth = the engine: “B” = L26 4.9L V-8
  • Ninth-check digit
  • 10th = model year, "N" for 1992
  • 11th = the assembly plant
  • The remaining six digits identify the production sequence number
